NewDictation in Cal Desktop

Hold ⌥D and talk. Let go and it's typed.

Answer in Slack, reply to an email, talk Claude through the whole problem. Cal Desktop transcribes on your Mac and the words land where your cursor is.

For macOS 13 and later. Sign in with your Cal.com account to start.

Or hold ⌥D anywhere on this page.

Wherever your cursor is.

Slack, Linear, Claude, Cursor, Notion, the terminal. If you can paste into it, you can talk into it. Nothing to install per app, and no list of supported ones.

Ramble. It still comes out clean.

Turn on cleanup and Cal Desktop drops the ums and uhs, keeps the fix when you change your mind mid-sentence and adds the punctuation. It leaves your wording alone.

Cleanup is off until you turn it on. It runs online, so it needs you signed in and adds a second or two. Short phrases go in as you said them.

Formal in email, lowercase in texts.

Give each app a tone once: Formal, Casual or Very casual. Outlook gets a greeting and full stops, Messages gets all lowercase, Slack sits in between. Formal and Casual come with cleanup.

Tone per app

Apps appear here once you've dictated into them.

Select it, say what to change.

Select text in any app, hold ⌥E and say “make this shorter”, “more formal” or “turn this into bullets”. Cal Desktop rewrites it in place. With nothing selected, say what you want, like “a polite decline”.

“”

Or hold ⌥E anywhere on this page.

Your names and jargon, spelled right.

Add the names, acronyms and product words that keep coming out wrong, and Cal Desktop fixes them every time it hears them. Snippets turn “my calendar link” into the link.

Talk in Polish, send it in English.

Pick the language the text should land in, then talk in your own. Translation runs online, so it needs you signed in.

Fifty seconds of talking, typed in a quarter of one.

The wait after you let go is the part you feel. Speech now runs on the Mac's Neural Engine. This is how long transcription takes for how long you talked, beside our old CPU pipeline and Hex, the open-source app that runs Parakeet on Core ML.

Where your voice goes.

Cal Desktop transcribes your voice on your Mac. Text goes out only for the features that need it. This is everything that leaves, and when.

  • Parakeet on your Mac

Dictation runs on your Mac and works with no connection.

  • No audio in the cloud

Dictation has no online speech engine. Your recording stays on the Mac, signed in or not.

  • Text for cleanup and edits

Cleanup, translation and edit by voice send the transcribed text to Cal.com's API. When the cloud doesn't answer, Apple's on-device model does the cleanup.

  • Insights stay counts

Words, speed and streaks are counted on your Mac. Team leaderboards get word counts and time, never what you said, and you can turn sharing off.

Your numbers, counted on your Mac.

Your words per minute, how many times faster that is than typing at 40 wpm, the time it saved you, the apps you talk into and your streak.
